ANIMAL portrait ACCREDITATION

Professional Photographers of Canada accreditation is a peer-reviewed designation. To become accredited, photographers must submit a body of work that is critically assessed by experienced, qualified professionals within the industry.

Images are judged on:

Lighting and exposure

Composition and storytelling

Consistency across multiple images

Technical accuracy

Professional presentation

Only photographers who meet or exceed these benchmarks earn the title Accredited Professional Photographer.

In short:
You’re not guessing what you’ll get.
You’re hiring proven skill.

Ten (10) images of ten (10) different types of animals taken on ten (10) different sessions. May include wild, farm or domesticated animals. May include portraits taken indoors, or outdoors.

Photos may range from including the entire animal in the frame to headshots or abstract images of a body part. An animal portrait may include up to three animals. The photographer should demonstrate an ability to capture personality and character.

FAQ

artist's statement

Animals have always been my teachers.

Across these ten images—created over ten separate sessions—I set out to photograph not just what an animal looks like, but who they are in that moment. Whether wild or domesticated, each subject was approached with the same intention: patience, respect, and an openness to whatever they chose to reveal.

This body of work includes wildlife, farm animals, and beloved companions. Some are photographed in expansive environments, others in quiet, intimate portraits. The variety in framing—from full-body images to close studies—reflects my belief that personality can live anywhere: in posture, in gaze, in the subtle tilt of a head or the way light falls across fur, feathers, or scales.

I do not pose animals. I observe them.

My role is to create space—technically and emotionally—so that character can surface naturally. Composition, depth of field, and light are used deliberately, but never to overpower the subject. Instead, they serve to draw attention to expression, texture, and presence. Each image is a collaboration between photographer and subject, guided by trust and timing rather than control.

As someone rooted in rural life, animals are not separate from my daily experience—they are part of it. This familiarity allows me to work quietly, intuitively, and with empathy, whether I am photographing a wild animal on its own terms or a domesticated animal within a shared human world.

Together, these images represent my ability to consistently capture personality and character across species, environments, and sessions—honouring the individuality of each animal while maintaining a cohesive, intentional photographic voice.
