FAQ
As a child, all I wanted was a horse. I wanted to be a horse.
There were days when I would run with my pink skipping rope between my teeth, my sister running behind me shaking the ends of the rope and shouting giddy-up. It's a miracle I still have teeth.
My first memory of being captivated by a horse is being at my Uncle's house, and watching my Dad's pinto mare Patches gallop up the laneway.
Watching her, I wanted to be just like Elizabeth Taylor in National Velvet, I wanted to jump on her back and ride like the wind. Bear in mind, I likely wasn't more than 3 or 4, but I remember this moment with absolute clarity as my life shifted in that moment.
I knew, then, as that little girl, that horses would always be at the forefront of my life.
The smell of them, the feel of them, the comfort they bring. It's no wonder we, who love horses, are obsessed by them.
It took me years to realize that my passions could collide, combine, and that I could tell stories of horses that would resonate and matter.
Maybe I wasn't supposed to photograph them when I was starting my career. Maybe it's only when I realized that photography, for me, wasn't only about money; but about heart, emotion, legacy, was I ready to photograph them with the respect and love they deserve.
Friends, here it is, my heart laid bare, from the Wildies of Sundre, the horses who have touched lives of those who love them to the far shores of the Wild horses of Sable Island.
This is my Equine accreditation, granted by Professional Photographers of Canada.
