Alberta Equine Photographer: Why Being Photographed with Your Horse Matters
Harnessing the Beauty: The Value of Equine Portraits – Capturing Timeless Memories with Your Majestic Partner
It’s been a year now we lost Blaze.
Every single time I go to the horse pasture, I ache for the sound of her welcoming whinny. Here’s what I’m grateful for, as an Alberta Equine Photographer, I’ve been spending all of her life documenting Blaze.
I press into Chicka’s neck just a little bit longer, breathe just a little bit deeper, celebrate her with a little more gratitude.
I let Phoenix rest her nose on my face, feel her breathe into me, as I breathe into her, and revel in that moment.
Taking time to appreciate them helps me, and I feel it a little more every time I see them, that love; even while I grieve for Blaze, and still feel a tear slip down my face as I ache to see her in the fields.
I’ll never stop missing Blaze, or Luna, Kimone, Gypsy or Cinnamon who came before. However, I choose to celebrate them with love, joy and memories. Still, the tears will sometimes slip down my face.
Here is what carries me through.
There are so many memories of each one of them, as unique as they were. I have their halters, saddle pads and their hair.
Why It’s Important to Me To Photograph Horses and their Humans
There are photos, so many photos and that helps me to hold them in my heart. When I deliver images to clients who have been photographed with their horses at their wedding, their graduation, or for a Celebration Session, they all tell me that they LOVE their images. When those horses leave this earth, I receive messages like this one:
“I am so thankful to have those pictures Carla, it means the world to me ‘. Like me with Blaze, all this client has left is her horse’s tail hair, and the photos we created together.
Why I Became an Equine Photographer
This post talks about what got me started, and why photography is so important to me.
Helping You to Honour Your Horse
I tell stories with my camera, creating a legacy of love for you and your horses. It’s important to me to help you celebrate them, the milestones you share together and the moments that will become memories.
When my friend Colleen from Verstara Jewelry reached out for branding photos, we started talking about our mutual love for horses, how we both serve clients that love their horses, and we realized that we wanted to help our horse loving friends celebrate their horses.
I have incredible pieces of jewelry, created by Colleen. You can check out Verstara <<here>> Some of these pieces were created in celebration, made and enjoyed while my horses were still here with me. Some are created in Legacy, poignant reminders of our life together.
Here are a few of Verstara’s recent pieces.
In wearing my jewelry, gazing at my photos, I hold them in my heart, whether they are still here with me, or waiting for me Heaven.
Together, in honour of our horses, Colleen and I have created the Legacy Sessions and the Celebration Sessions. It’s a testament to our love for our horses, and a way to honour the love you have for yours.

Such beautiful portraits of humans and their horses! It’s evident how important this is to you, and how much you love what you do! Beautiful memories and work!
Carla, you create not only beautiful portraits, but connections that make each photo something every horse lover needs. It is not always easy to get great pictures of horses, but you are clearly very skilled at making both the horses and their humans comfortable in front of the camera. Gorgeous work!
I love your Equine Photography! It’s obvious you are knowledgeable and care about your horse photography with their special people.
Thanks so much Jeanine!!

Thank you so much Michelle, it’s the two things nearest and dearest to my heart (aside from my family), horses and telling stories with my camera!
