Senior Lifestyle Sessions to reflect your sports, hobbies and interests

As a graduation photographer serving Edmonton, Sherwood Park, Tofield, Camrose and Vegreville, I create senior lifestyle images to celebrate your transition from high school to “the real world”.  This is a bittersweet time of looking backward while also peering forward.  It is a time of celebration, anticipation and new dreams while saying goodbye to a lifetime of high school hallways, seeing your friends every day and the even regular pursuit of your passions.

How Lucky I Am To Have Something That Makes Saying Goodbye So Hard

Over the years you’ve imagined your graduation.  There have been hours searching for the perfect dress or suit.  You’ve tackled the challenge of finding just the right pair of shoes, the sweetest little clutch, the right pattern and colour for your tie,

Now, you’re getting ready for finals, celebrating the end of your high school career and moving on to your adult life.

Here’s the thing.  You’re not only saying goodbye to your school days.  For many of you, this is an end to your activities.

Growing Up Means Letting Go of Something You’re Used to, and Moving On With Something You’re Not.

It’s the end of a lifetime of dance class and competitions. You learned to skate almost as soon as you could walk, the rink has been your home for so many years.  The skates are now hung up.  Your days of soccer are giving way to dorm rooms, or your first “grown up job”.  The piano keys wait silent, your lessons complete.

Regardless of how you feel about graduating and moving on to a new stage of life, it hurts to walk away from what defines you.  Whether it’s the sound of your blades slicing through the ice, the pounding of your taps on the stage, the feel of your cleats connecting to the ball, you are going to miss it.  There will be a hole inside of you, where once there was a passion.

I truly hope that you will continue to play, to leap and spin, to make a joyful noise.  I hope that the very things that define you continue to be a constant presence in your life.  However, with the pressures of college classes or a full time job, these things may not be at the forefront of your world anymore.

A lifestyle senior session to honour your accomplisments is a way to commemorate and celebrate your achievements or to simply say goodbye to the way of life that you know.

For my daughter, her hockey styled session was the last time she ever wore her minor hockey jersey.  She wanted a session to celebrate her final year, a triple crown win (minor hockey week, provincials, and the hockey league).  She wanted to show her strength, resilience and love for the game.  It was important to Callen to have her stick, skates and gloves in the images.  Together, we designed a session that spoke to who Callen is as a young woman, a hockey player and a fierce competitor.

As a Mother, I Treasure This Image.

As a photographer, I’m really proud of it.  I see my daugher; strong and fierce while also feeling introspective.  I see her saying goodbye to her minor hockey career.  To me, this image as a perfect representation of her pride, accomplishments and love for the game she’s played since she was 5 as well as her sadness at leaving the team that is a family.  On their last day, the final game, we all cried.  The girls, the coaches, the parents.  Together over the years, these girls built something phenomenal together and truly love each other.  The passing of time brought us closer and closer to the end and it was truly heart rending for all of us.

I needed to create something for Callen, a tangible reminder of who she is, what she accomplished, and how important it is.

Beauty and Elegance

During Hannah’s dance inspired session, she told me the wonderful news that she was the recipient of a scholarship to travel to Los Angeles to work with choreographers and be in a music video!  This dedicated dancer’s hard work has paid off, in a big way.  Her session was designed to celebrate Hannah’s love for her craft and to honour her accomplishments.  Hannah plans to continue in her field of dance and I can’t wait to see where her future leads.

Urban Chic

Kailah wanted an urban styled experience to showcase her style, celebrate her personality and bubbly nature.  I was so excited and focused on Kailah when we were photographing her session, I walked right into a sign post!  Kailah’s session focused solely on her, building her a collection of images to remember her teen and high school years, and to celebrate her graduation from high school.  We wandered Whyte Avenue in Edmonton, laughing, getting to know one another and playing.  The longer we walked, the more Kailah’s personality shined, and I knew I wanted to make an image that highlighed her cool, fun and bubbly personality.  I love this image, a beautiful girl in the midst of urban jungle.
