The number one question I get from graduates and parents is this:
When should we plan our photo session?
The answer to booking your graduation photos is really quite simple.
Whenever you want!
Okay – it may not be that cut and dried, but the truth is, an easier question to answer when booking your graduation photos is:
When shouldn’t you book?
Graduation day is often hectic, busy and a wee bit stressful. Trying to work in a photo session can often lead to additional stress and not yield the results that you (and I) want to achieve.
Sometimes, grad day is the only option, so together we’ll work together to create a plan to achieve optimal results.
In a perfect world, if you can choose anytime to shoot, what should that be?
This is my friend, is 100% up to you.
A graduation session is more than donning a tuxedo or stunning gown, it’s a story of who you are and what you love. For some this may look like this:
Or this:
Or this:
If so, you want a winter session.
Maybe you’re in love with the fresh and new of spring. When the posies peep their heads out and the trees are in full bloom, you’re in heaven. Then your session may look like this:
Then, there’s the lazy, hazy days of summer.
There is nothing quite like the colours of autumn in Alberta. Many graduates choose to have their portraits amidst the reds, oranges and bright bolds of fall. This is great for a lifestyle session to kick off the celebrations of your graduating year!
Here’s how to decide:
A few ways to help you decide when to choose your images are listed below:
What is your favourite time of year?
Do you have special hobbies that take place in a particular season?
When is everyone who is to be in your photos available?
When is your chosen location looking its best?
It’s Your Decision
Ultimately, when you choose to schedule your dream graduation session is up to you. It doesn’t matter if the session is before your graduation or the following season.
What is important is selecting a photographer who will help you design your session from start to finish, paying attention to your style, personality and ideas.
I’m here to support you in finding your location, determining your theme, providing advice on time of day, lighting and posing. Ultimately, your session will be as individual as you are, no cookie cutter sessions here.
Maybe you have questions, perhaps you’re ready to book. Wondering if it’s too early to book for your grad? I’m a click or call away with any questions! Oh, and it’s never too early, booking 2024 and 2025 grads now.

You have given future clients great things to think about when deciding when is the best time for them to book their senior portrait session! You can create stunning images all year, but it’s about what THEY want!
Wow, you really offer such a huge variety in sessions!! I personally am very jealous of your beautiful winter snow! In Phoenix we don’t get snow, so to see kids on the slopes, and especially the ski life…just WOW!!! Every season is so unique, I love that your grads have all these options and an amazing photographer to make it all come together!
